This week we didnt do much in our day book and I didnt feel like anything had an impact on me but I will keep my blog post related to English.

Earlier this semester I think I mentioned that my grandma would like to publish her poems some day. Well with the help of my uncle this dream has became a reality. She informed me on friday that she had published her poems in my uncles new book and was very excited to share witheveyone her great news.

Although this post is not much I think it is important to share the excitement with my grandma and spread the great news.

Hazel Tells Laverne

Katharyn Machan Aal (b. 1952)

last night
im cleanin out my
howard johnsons ladies room
when all of a sudden
up pops this frog
musta come from the sewer
swimmin aroun an tryin ta
climb up the sida the bowl
so i goes ta flushm down
but sohelpmegod he starts talkin
bout a golden ball
an how i can be a princess
me a princess
well my mouth drops
all the way to the floor
an he says
kiss me just kiss me
once on the nose
well i screams
ya little green pervert
an i hitsm with my mop
an has ta flush
the toilet down three times
me
a princess

I loved this poem, I thought it was hilarious. It was based off of the frog prince who I am sure the brothers Grimm wrote. That was one of my favorite story's and love anything related to it. This poem hit some key concepts from the frog prince like the golden ball and the kiss but there are some differences too. In the frog prince the girl is already a princess who loses her golden ball and the frog offers to give it back to her if she promises to do stuff for him like let him eat in her house and stuff like that. The princess and the frog is also another version of the frog prince made by Disney which happens to be my dad's favorite Disney movie ( which he will deny if anyone asked) it takes a comical perspective on the story like this poem did.

Expand

I will expand on number 2 because I feel I can write more about that than any thing else on the list. Many of you may already know that life is hard and there are great moments in life and then there are those periods in life where its hard and it is hard to see the other side of that dark tunnel. These past three months have been a down fall for me and what I used to call a normal life. High School was great for me, I had a ton of friends, Ran track and cross country, made good grades, had wonderful teachers that cared I was living a dream. Then life hit me I had to get a real job pay for the 100 dollars of gas each week to get to school everyday and had to help support my family while doing all of my school work. But these last few weeks i felt like everything has turned around. I realize who i wanted to be and learned a lot about being responsible and learned to conserve as much as i can. So in a way the down falls of life help you get stronger. You know the saying what does not kill you makes you stronger, well its right.

Pictures around campus

Booth, Michelle. Veterans Club sign, 2012, Veterans club, University of North Carolina Charlotte.

The veterans club sign is significant to our injury project because it is a public writing. I Chose to research signage around campus. I do not know who the artist is so I put the photographers name in the citation in the artist place.

Picture1030121925_1.jpg    2.)Booth, Michelle. Voting Pumpkins, 2012, University of North Carolina Charlotte.

The voting pumpkins were sitting on the path outside the main entrance of the library on campus. The pumpkins were raising awareness of election day November 6th 2012. I think it is a example of signage because it is there to inform students on a canvas. It takes a new perspective on signs saying you could use any canvas to inform people around you.

3.)Booth, Michelle. Shirts Speaking against Violence, 2012, University of North Carolina Charlotte.

The shirts were also outside the main entrance of the library and like the pumpkins were there to inform students. This is another example on how different things can become signs.
